I don’t think I have heard much said about this today and yet it seems that somebody should be noting it. Our media seem to be focused on other things. Today, February 12, 2008 is the sesquicenquadrigenerenovennial [I learned that word in 1975 when the national bicentennial was approaching and somebody needed an impressive way of saying 199th anniversary and thought this word would do that] of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. Also, according to many sources, it holds the same distinction for Charles Darwin.
Some day we may have a discussion on which of these men did the most to influence the way we live today, but for now I’ll just note that in 366 days these men will be having their bicentennials.
