Fire on Payne Avenue

A fire started late last night at 980 Payne. The building had a liquor store downstairs and apartments upstairs, but I don’t know if they were occupied.

These pictures were taken about 8:00 this morning.
There will probably be some coverage in the DPP tomorrow.
From as close as I could get without crossing a police line or falling on the ice, it looked like Donald’s store and the Borgstrom site were not damaged although there might be some smoke damage.

Ray,
Thank you for sharing these pictures.

I hope no one was hurt.

According to stories in the local media last night [12/29] everybody was evacuated successfully, but they are now homeless and without their possessions.

When I drove by this morning the building was
completely disassembled.

Thanks for the pictures, Ray. The next thing we saw was an empty lot. They waste no time taking them down, do they. Mike says: "That's one building that won't have a FOR SALE sign on it."

Luckily indeed, no one was hurt. (Miraculously!) Happy New Year to all of them, all your readers and you, too, Ray. Love, Murph & Mike

I didn't realize that you were still using CCC. I haven't seen anything new on it in a long time, but I see it in your watermark.

Mike and Murph [and I’m guessing I know which Mike and which Murph this is]

Happy New Year to you also.

I ran into one of my dozen or so readers Sunday and he noted that the pictures might have some value for insurance people since the building came down so quickly. I really suspect that insurance people already have what they need or at least know better ways to get them.

When I first heard of the fire I had been led to think that there were other buildings involved and wondered about Donald’s and the Swenson’s/Borgstrom’s building and maybe even the shoe store. I wondered what effect losing all of those businesses would have on Payne Avenue and even speculated if/how ISP might affect that. I am glad that the fire did not spread and that those who still need school uniforms will be able to get them.

I do still have pre-watermark versions of the pictures, but cannot imagine any requests.

Well, the CCC watermark is on the computer and I was in a rush to get the pictures up. Besides, I still plan on using CCC for other things [probably Jefferson Hill] if I can ever figure out how to change the stuff there. [I am having some difficulties making many changes there and haven’t had the time to play around with the various permutations of hardware and software to bring much change.]

Thank you all for your input.
